Notational Literature, The unfinished work

The 4th annual Museum of Futures Exhibition Opening Event
February Tuesday 18th 2020 - 7pm / free entry / At Museum of Futures 117 Brighton Rd, Surbiton KT6 5NJ

With readings / performances by Simon Brown, Agnieszka Studzinka, Kate Scott, Jamie Toy, Julia Lewis, Simon Tyrrell, Astra Papachristodoulou, John Patrick Hughes, Lucy Furlong and more.

The poem, the story, the poster, the literary artwork as Note. Note as in draft, as in graphic symbol, as in discovered text. Note as in reminder, forgotten, perhaps scrawled, handwritten, typed or digital. Note on a phone, in a notebook, on a bus. The notebook as the poem, the word doc draft as the final story, because the author intervened. An exhibition that celebrates the process over the product, that takes pleasure, and pain, in the inevitable unfinished, in that which points to a future finality that’ll never come.

Following hugely successful, joyous and communal exhibitions in 2017, 2018 and 2019, this year’s exhibition invites submissions of work until February 5th 2020, soon to open. All prospective writers, poets, artists must be able to hand deliver their framed work on Monday February 17th.

This event will present speakers from a multitude of backgrounds and disciplines, from staff and students of Kingston University to local writers and visiting speakers. Their responses to the theme will be positively various and can include new readings of fiction and poetry alongside experimental or theatrical performance, speeches, talks, recitals and everything in between, excluding academic lectures.

Each presentation will be short, under ten minutes in duration, and together, they will create a dynamic experience, full of ideas that intermingle and engage.
